Are you Deaf, hard of hearing, speech impaired, visually impaired, or have a physical disability that makes it hard for you to use a telephone?
The program may buy or repair the equipment you need including:
- TTY, large visual display or braille TTY
- Amplifier and ring/flasher device
- Voice carry-over telephone or hearing carry-over telephone
- Personal computer (including used equipment) if bought with text telephone software, or text telephone software for a computer
- Other adaptive equipment you may need to use the phone.
We have currently run out of funds for the remainder of our fiscal year—the demand for the new CapTel phone has been tremendous! We still have a few pieces of equipment left in our office for distribution (including CapTels), but most applications that come in now will not be funded until July 1st. Please feel free to complete and return an application to us, with the understanding that our program will begin funding applicants again on July 1, 2008. It will still help to send your application in before July, as if there are any problems we can resolve them and have your application approved and ready to be ordered on July 1st. If you are a current EDP consumer and need equipment repair, or need a waiver of the four year waiting period to get new equipment, we have a small fund set aside for you and we will be able to fund your request.
If you were interested in a CapTel phone and do not want to wait until July 1, you can purchase one yourself for $99 from WCI. Please contact them at 1-800-233-9130, or get more information online at www.captionedtelephone.com.
If you are approved, you will be provided up to $750* to be used to purchase equipment approved by the program, as listed in the application.
*If the equipment you need is more than $750, a waiver of the spending limit may be available.
