American Sign Language (ASL) Classes
The ASL Program offered by the Vermont Center for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing, Inc. provides American Sign Language (ASL) classes throughout the state of Vermont to professionals, community members and parents. The VISTA Signing Naturally Curriculum is utilized for 13 week courses offered in the fall and spring. ASL students learn the fundamentals of finger-spelling, ASL structure and vocabulary as well as develop skills for communicating with Deaf people. ASL students will be introduced to the complex aspects of ASL communication, including eye movement, facial expression and body posture. Students will also explore and develop skills in gesture, pantomime and body-language.
Brattleboro, Vermont
The next session of ASL III and V weekly classes begin on Wednesday, August 27th from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. ASL I, II, IV, VI weekly classes begin on Thursday, August 28th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. The ASL classes will be held for 13 weeks. Registration fee is $250 plus material expenses which will depend on class level. Registration deadline is August 22, 2008. Enrollment allows 15 students per class. Northern VermontĀ
The next session of ASL I classes begin on September 4th in Barre, VT and September 15th in Williston, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. ASL II classes begin on October 21st in Barre and November 3rd in Williston from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Both ASL I and II are held twice a week, Monday and Thursday evenings fro 12 classes. Registration fee is $150 plus material expenses. Barre classes use “Learning American Sign Language (2nd Edition) ISBN 0-205-27553-2 and the Williston classes use “Signing Naturally Level One (1) DVD and Workbook, ISBN 1-58121-127-9.
